Add Fractions to Your Word Document in Three Easy Steps
I've created this Hub as tutorial to help teachers as well as students make fractions in their Microsoft Word documents. The Tutorial is directly made for Microsoft Word 2003, but may be used with other versions. The steps listed here can also be used to create several other functions in Microsoft Word besides creating fractions, and I encourage you to explore. However, for now, lets focus on making fractions.
Step 1 : Ctrl - F9
- In your document, head to the place you want to put your fraction. Put your cursor at that spot and hit “Ctrl – F9”. This will make a code bracket.
Step 2 : Enter Your Code
Inside of the bracket that appears you enter a variety of codes to create various wonderful things in your Word document. We want to make a simple fraction, so in that space between the brackets type in the following: “{eq \f(1,2)}” In the parentheses’ you can replace the 1 and 2 with any two numbers you’d like in your faction. The first will be your numerator and the second will be your denominator.
Step 3: Toggle Field Codes
Now right click on the things you typed in the bracket and choose “Toggle Field Codes”. This will switch the code to appear as a fraction.
Step 4: Your New Fraction
Now that you've created your fraction, you can right click and choose “Toggle Field Codes” again to switch back to the code view to edit it. "Ctrl - F9" can be used to create several different things besides fractions. Choose the Edit Field after you've Right Clicked on the code field to explore the different things you can do with this awesome tool.
